Make it make sense!
By Nina Ragzs, Keepers of the Garden
I have consequences from my unhealthy eating habits. Fried everything, loads of sugar and not enough vegetables for the short list. So in a middle aged effort to become healthier, I have modified my diet. When I started to draft this blog I was originally going to share with you how I prefer smoothies and blending.
However, after a very informative conversation with my son , he “made it make sense”. “Juicing puts the consumed liquid directly into my blood stream vs solids which go through my digestive system”. A wow moment for me, I simply did not prefer my juicer because of the clean up. “Did” speaks of past tense, I will now resume juicing.
Juicing fruits and vegetables can contribute to reducing your risk of cancer, boosting your immune system, removing toxins, aid digestion, help weight loss. My body needs targeted results not the journey through my digestive system.
Targeted results require research. You know what your body needs so only you can create juice that is specific to your needs.
A few of my juice ingredients are:
Pineapples they provide vitamin c,are high in magnesium and are an anti-inflammatory.
Apples with peel provide vitamin c and are good for lung, heart, asthma, brain and bone health. Apples also have a fiber that breaks down the gut and slows digestion so you feel fuller.
Carrots have beta-carotene which help reduce age related cognitive decline. Carrots also fight antioxidants.
Spinach, kale and berries are also ingredients that have the targeted results I need.
I have the following suggestions:
Invest in a juicer
Containers for daily juice portions
Prep fruit vegetables clean with apple cider vinegar and cut
Bag prepared ingredients for easy portion juicing.
