Care Giver Care for Thyself

By Nina Ragzs keepersofthegarden

Whether it be a spouse, child, parents or siblings care giving is a challenge. My husband has had some health challenges and most recently he has become a bilateral leg amputee. I love my husband so being his “ride or die“ is just what I do.

However, being his everything while he recuperated broke me down mentally and physically. I was exhausted!

I had to make changes if we would last the long haul of our new, new. I mattered my health and wellbeing matter. My new responsibilities of what he could no longer do on so many levels needed to be coordinated, in addition to his care.

I had to adjust, include both our needs, full time work was not an option in this season, sacrifices on both our parts was necessary but I by far had to make the biggest sacrifice. I did first have to know what I needed and 8 hours of sleep is at the top of my list.

A schedule was mandatory, specific days for required task was instituted. I had to become first disciplined to take care of me or we would be in trouble.

I have new boundaries for myself, what I do allow and can’t allow in my life. I have a daily schedule for myself and it requires I awake 2 hours before my husband. I go to bed at 10pm and the phone is on dnd.

I am an Administrative Assistant by profession, office coordinator, manager. If you need assistance coordinating your time, task, new responsibilities in this season, I offer my services.

Caregiver take care of you!

You absolutely matter.
