National Adoption Day

Sunflower Project, KeepersoftheGarden

By Nina Ragzs

The Sunflower project grows in our garden. Sunflower is that young woman who was abandoned, placed in foster care and will age out, never being adopted nor have a family to call her own.

I am an advocate for Sunflower, I stand in the gap for her,I pray for her. Her needs are a priority to me and I care what her future will bring. Sunflowers future is dim, she will age out of foster care in the next 2-3 years, she is likely to be in an abusive relationship, become drug addicted or used for sex trafficking. No one is coming to look for her, give hope nor point her towards a better life.

My passion for this project doesn’t come from bad experiences of abandonment nor abuse in foster care, I didn’t age out and have to find my own way. My passion comes from being loved, cared for and being given a family that is mine. I was given a chance for a better life, my story unfortunately is not the majority but the minority.

However, I remember being a teenager, in pain, lost,I didn’t know who I was, I wasn’t okay and no one asked. If Sunflower is in your sphere of influence, in your class, your ministry, the team you coach a friend your family member brings home, remember she has no family, hope is hard to see and how can she have faith when she has been left in this world alone.

She is different but she can be a different success story if you coach, mentor her where she is, see her.

If you have room in your heart and have considered adopting, please consider Sunflower!
